The PDF encryption tool adds password protection using AES-256 encryption — entirely processed locally in your browser. Your files and passwords never leave your device. Two password types are supported: 1) Open password (user password) — required to view the file; 2) Permission password (owner password) — controls editing, printing, and copying rights. You can set just an open password (most common), just permissions (allow viewing but prevent editing/printing), or both. Encrypted PDFs comply with PDF/A standards and work in all PDF readers.

What encryption standard does Allin PDF use?
Allin PDF uses AES-256 encryption, the industry standard for document security. The encrypted PDF requires a password to open, and additionally restricts copying content, modifying the document, and limits printing to low resolution.
Is PDF encryption done locally?
Yes, completely local. The encryption is applied in your browser using pdf-lib. Your password and file are never sent to any server. This is the most secure approach — the encryption happens on your device only.
Can I remove encryption from a PDF?
Allin PDF currently supports adding encryption to PDFs. PDF decryption (password removal) requires knowing the original password and is available as a separate tool. You cannot decrypt a PDF without the correct password.
